This piece is my fantasy on Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, which has always sounded haunting and mesmerizing to me. And I still don’t know whether Pyotr Ilyitch wrote that for Christmas or… for Halloween?? The instrumentation features celesta and a pizzicato string section, as well as some ghostly winds and skeleton-like percussion.
