Many nowadays composers and producers got caught onto a nostalgic throwback to cassette and tape sounds. Composers such as Johann Johannson, Nils Frahm, Max Richter, Olafur Arnalds, among many others use tape recordings and delays to create a specific ambience.
Similar techniques where used in this piano composition to give the track a nostalgic melancholic feel with a very modern neo-classical sound, where you hear the hammers and felt of the piano and the pedal making noise and a long soothing reverb creating a soft ambient piano sound. This song was live recorded on a yamaha piano. The tape kind of delayed piano you hear in the background was recorded on an old Bechstein piano with tape delays and analog reverb on top of it.
It is a minimalistic piano piece with four chords that slowly progresses and builds up and evolves. It is all played on 132 bpm, originally intended as a melodic techno track, giving a continuous dreamy atmosphere that draws you in. Floating around in a sweet melancholic space.
In case some people prefer a less ambient approach I included a cleaner version, starting at 5.12 in the preview. Both versions are 5:12.
