This sad, nostalgic waltz starts with solo piano which is later on joined by mandolin, strings, harp and harpsichord. Following this middle section the main theme returns but with the addition of these extra instruments. The music has a European, even Russian feel to it and would suit a production where both a sense of sadness and location are needed.
