A cool laid-back 70’s style retro groove featuring some awesome soprano sax playing by my South African friend Barry Snyman. Would like to just name check Gerry Niewood and Chuck Mangione here, whose stuff I loved when I was at Eastman School of Music. This is very much in their style – perhaps a touch more pop than jazz though with the slightly rockier kit sounds? The scene setting opening is followed by the main theme, hauntingly played over an intriguing band groove that features drums, bass, percussion and rhodes piano. On the later repeat, the sax alternates between playing the melody and answer phrases; slow fade closes out. Enjoy and please rate this piece!
