“On the Rocking Horse” by Robert Schumann is from the set “Kinderszenen” or “Scenes from Childhood.” In this work, Schumann provides us with his adult reminiscences of childhood. Schumann had originally written 30 movements for this work, but chose 13 for the final version.
The piece is also known as “Knight of the Hobbyhorse” and is full of adventure, but with a humorous undertone as well. The music is great for children’s show openings or the beginning of an adventure.
