“Hobgoblin” by Robert Schumann is from the set “Kinderszenen” or “Scenes from Childhood.” In this work, Schumann provides us with his adult reminiscences of childhood. Schumann had originally written 30 movements for this work, but chose 13 for the final version.
The piece is also known as “Frightening” and contains elements of light suspense, but encapsulated by a humorous tone. The music works great for scenes with a mischievous or playful feel.
