Pictures at an Exhibition (Pictures from an Exhibition – A Remembrance of Viktor Hartmann; French: Tableaux d’une exposition) is a suite in ten movements (plus a recurring, varied Promenade) composed for piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky in 1874.
The piece is also known as “The Heroes’ Gate at Kiev” and the original sketch was a design for city gates at Kiev in the ancient Russian massive style with a cupola shaped like a slavonic helmet. The piece is grand and noble, making it great for showcasing landmarks. The heroic aspect of the piece makes it great for military-themed projects as well.
