This Venetian Gondola Song is the sixth of Songs Without Words, Opus 30 by famous German composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Songs Without Words is a series of short lyrical piano pieces in eight books, each consisting of six songs. They were part of the Romantic tradition of writing short lyrical pieces for the piano. Although Song Without Words seems to be Felix Mendelssohn’s own invention.
This Venetian Gondola Song is in the second book (Opus 30). Like all other Venetian Gondola Songs in other books, it has nice rhythmic arpeggios that depict the rocking motion of a boat and a beautiful romantic melody in F-sharp minor. This is one of the best piano pieces in Romantic Period.
I have played this piece on a Steinway concert piano. It is ideal for your projects needing a romantic solo piano piece.
