Large Airliner Takeoff

Large Airliner Takeoff

It is a lovely day to travel! The plane idles at the runway for four seconds, engines spool, and then the pilot hits full throttle. The combustion rumble kicks in and the Pratt and Whitney JT3Ds spool into action with their characteristic “song”. The plane begins its roll, moving toward the listener standing 200 feet from the runway. As the elegant old bird approaches, the combustion grows louder. The Doppler Effect takes over as she whizzes by, ready for rotation. Rotate, gear up, and she thunders off into Class-B air space toward her destination…

This is a researched and completely computer-generated takeoff of a large airliner, modeled on the Douglas DC-8-62 but suitable for many aircraft particularly of that vintage. A considerable amount of effort went into the research, particularly behind the engine whine harmonics, with an authentic – and immediately recognizable – result.

This would make a great background sound effect.
