This is the firts movement of Haydn’s Symphony No. 44, which he completed in 1772. This symphony is nicknamed the Mourning Symphony (German: Trauer-Sinfonie), because Haydn wanted the third (slow) movement of this symphony to be played at his funeral. It is a typical work from Haydn’s Sturm und Drang (storm and stress) period.
This is the complete first movement, played authentically, including the repeats.
