As much as I hate the idea of one of these big names (Apple/Google) owning everything, I really do wish there was just one browser for us all to develop on.
At least get rid of Internet Explorer completely. That alone would increase web creativity by a few thousand percent!
But if you got rid of Internet Explorer 6, what would Envato Devs USE !!!
LOL the world would end
This is going to be rough on Safari users.. I bet there will be quite a few ‘web developers’ out there not seeing a point in testing for Webkit anymore now, since Chrome had such a more significant market share.
A few colleagues of ours have been discussing this on facebook, they are all Mac Devs, and are not happy.
One thing I don’t understand is all the vendor-prefixes. Seems like everything would be a lot easier if they just weren’t used at all.
Oh man, I just feel like the bugs are going to come rolling in when this happens, a completely new rendering engine in one of the most used browsers, that sad thing is that so many users won’t know that this is happening, so in the ‘teething’ period where everyone is having to basically test ‘blink’ on production sites, any blink users will be thinking that quite a few sites are bugged.
Or is there an open beta that we can get onto that I’m being too stupid to see?
What they want to change: http://www.chromium.org/blink#architectural-changes
Looks to be a good evolution. Maybe in the future Webkit engine will move to this new fork.
so wll it be … -blink-box-shadow etc
Opera is such a follower…
Perhaps not long from now, Apple will be the only one still using WebKit for Safari? Since it’ll probably continue to be an iOS / Mac OS only browser, it’s relevance might be further jeopardized?
Too bad Apple won’t likely let Google use Blink in iOS. We’re forever stuck with an skinned Chrome imposter.
