Djordje Jovancic (born on August 9th, 1992) is a young musician, composer, accordionist and singer from Istocno Sarajevo. He is a student at the Composition Department of the Academy of Music in Sarajevo. Besides the completed primary and secondary music education, he attended singing classes. He completed two high-level “Estill voice models” courses with professor Anna-Marie Speed of Royal Music Academy in London. He got involved in music very early, by playing the accordion and singing, and later by composing work as well. He has been playing the accordion for ten years. He is employed at the “Skender Kulenovic” primary school inSarajevo as a music teacher. He completed the primary school and elementary school of music in Istocno Sarajevo in 2007. In the same year, he was admitted to the High School of Music, also in Istocno Sarajevo, and attended it until 2011, when he graduated at the department: music performer – accordionist. He has been involved in composing since 2007. He is an active young composer of art (academic) music. In June 2010, he had a concert inSarajevo, where he promoted his art music pieces. It was Djordje’s first concert of the kind. He has achieved successful cooperation with a few professors of Academy of Music in Sarajevo and in Istocno Sarajevo, as well as with elementary and secondary schools of music, who performed his compositions for the accordion, piano, flute, solo voice and choir. In January 2011, Istocno Sarajevo witnessed the premiere of the first Serbian ethno-musical comedy “Toplik”, composed by DJordje. Djordje worked for about half a year on creating this musical and stage piece, writing music, screenplay and directing it. “Toplik” was declared a piece of great significance for cultural life of both Isto?no Sarajevo and Republika Srpska. In June of the same year, the ethno-musical comedy was transferred for permanent sound and image carrier (DVD), published by Istocno Sarajevo Radio and Television and was made available in stores. It is Djordje’s first published disk. Besides the composing activity, Djordje has experience as an organizer. Since 2011, cultural event named “Christmas Festivities” has been organized in Istocno Sarajevo, and Djordje is its art director. On the occasion of the merriest Christian holiday – Christmas, Djordje thrilled audience with the “Great Christmas Concert”. He made vocal and orchestral arrangements of well-known Orthodox spiritual melodies and presented them to public in a new light. In cooperation with a soprano, mr. Klaudija Krkotic, he performed these compositions. Djordje’s creative opus of art music until now consists of instrumental (pieces for solo instruments, chamber and orchestra pieces), vocal (choral pieces), and vocal-instrumental (solo songs) music. Djordje started his musical career by singing at the children’s “George’s Day Festival in Banja Lukain 2001. When he discovered his inclination for composing, he first composed children songs. His great love for children and children songs is still present. Djordje is the author of numerous children songs, some of which are the winning songs of children festivals. In his free time, he composes and writes songs for himself. He has achieved a great success and a couple of first prizes at popular music festivals as a singer-songwriter. One of Djordje’s dearest prizes is the Grand Prix for composition “Pogled u oci” (A Look into the Eyes), and the award for best performer at “Prvi aplauz” festival inBanja Lukain 2008. Djordje has gained a rich experience in work with electronic media. Over the past three years, he has worked on a number of musical projects and a free-lance associate of Radio-Television of Istocno Sarajevo and Radio-Television of Republika Srpska. He participated in a number of TV shows and projects. He has also had a number of appearances on radio and TV, interviews, concerts and performances.
