Poisonland is…

...a hybrid score track, with an eerie and uneasy sound. It’s based around some haunting guitar melodies, almost bluesy sounding, suggesting a desolate place, the middle of nowhere type of situation. A deep and dark pad creates an effective ominous feeling, a dark force lurking around the corner.

The sonic spectre is completed by rhythmical pizzi strings which provide the track with a strange marching drive, making this suitable for epic visuals. The first part is rather dark and threatening, while the subtle chord change in the middle enhances the uneasiness by adding a somewhat bittersweet and unnatural aura to the piece. Cinematic percussion, big hits and transitions as well as a hypnotic heartbeat sound further move this into science fiction territory.

Useful for…

...this hybrid type of soundtrack oriented theme is very suitable for post-apocalyptic subjects and scenes, like the discovery of an abandoned planet or an underworld, a slow realization that the world isn’t what it used to be, after nuclear warfare or some sort of pandemic caused by a deadly virus, which most likely spawned a new species of mutant zombies (which are also vampires). There is fascination and horror at the same time, a strong sensation that something, a being or a force not of this world, waits around the corner, ready to attack. The guitar theme makes this a good intro for an anti-hero, a cyberpunk or steampunk type of square jaw tough guy.
