Give a Hoot

Give a Hoot

The melodica, the little hand-held keyboard wind instrument you may have played as a kid in music class, is also heard in popular music. Nicknamed the “hooter,” it was used in the theme to the US version of “The Office.” Jon Batiste plays one on “Late Night.” It even had a band named for it—the Hooters from Philadelphia. Here it’s featured along with mandolin, guitars, piano and drums, to create a big classic rock and roll instrumental with some Springsteen elements and an acoustic breakdown in the middle.
