Classic page flip | XML driven

This is a classic flip book based on the idea to create a more intuitive way of browsing PDF ’s and other content. It is fully dynamic and loads external pages in different formats.

Features:

  • Full XML
  • Uses CSS to format text fields
  • Smoothing of pages forced
  • Pages get an internal shading and highlight
  • Pages get scaled on load, which enables you to make crisp zoomed images
  • Only a few items in the library with a blank stage, so fully coded
  • Automatic thumbnail creation
  • Zoom features with extended zoom option
  • Internal and external linking
  • Define the buttons you need in the top bar
  • Multiple button packs included with FLA ’s
  • Print options
  • PDF download button
  • Contact form (PHP included)
  • No annoying tooltips, still with user support
  • Liquid layout
  • Book becomes visible when 8 pages have loaded
  • No flipping beyond the last loaded page
  • Flash8 support
  • MP3 player
  • Background image (centered, tiled or full screen)
  • Reverse read direction
  • Automic flip through engine
  • User system check
New:
  • Internal lightbox
  • Improved loading engine

As stated before, it’s the classic page flip effect, but with externally loaded pages from an XML file. All colors (except for the items in the top bar) can be changed by editing the XML file. Text colors and size etc can be changed by editing the CSS file.

Cheers Fonz for you offer…..I nearly got you do do it, but I decided not to be so lazy and coded it myself.

I achieved….... 1. Left and right arrow keys now flip pages back and forth. 2. Up and down arrow keys zooms in and out. 3. Enter key bring up the thumbnails/list. 4. Space Bar takes me back to my index page.

I also change button functions to on Release from on Press.

Jpg’s loads faster but vector/swf files are best for quality but slow the page flip abit I find. Can it be speed up?

Cheers and great work again on making it.

Lol, thought so. As stated in the mail, it doesn’t take long, but I just have to stick to a certain format to make things worth my while, I bet you understand.

Nice ideas btw on the keyboard implementation!

As far as the speed of the flip and SWFs etc goes; since it all boils down to a lot of math, vector, png and gif with alpha will slow the flip down, no doubt. Still there are some ‘speed’ settings in theFlip.as. Scroll all the way down to the starting settings, you’ll find basically 3 variables used for the speed. A number closer to 0 will speed things up, so it’s not the speed that is being set, but the delay actually.

Hope that helps!

Yes… gone are my days of working for nothing as well…

Mess around with the flip settings, abit better now…. Thanks

Yes I really like my arrow control keys now instead of clicking on the buttons.

Hey is there an easy way to lift the whole book up closer to the top bar? Is it located in thePageShower.as ?

Np.

An easy way, well you seem to have your head screwed on the correct way, so it shouldn’t be a big challenge.

open the FLA , go the the start up function, you’ll see the pages getting set on the _y axes. Change that.

Next, open the pageShower.as and walk through it. You’ll see you need to change a lot of _y settings accordingly (not that much actualy, but it has to be done). Btw. actually thinking of updating that part as well for the next version.

Open theResizer.as and do the same thing for all elements involved.

Last but not least theZoom.as for the zoomOut function.

When done, republish the FLA .

That’s the shortest description I can give on it, but I guess you’ll manage.

Good luck and when you run into trouble, send me a mail if you please.

Hi Fonz Still working on my project but thought I would add this to maybe help some folks.

Best way to make the pages is vector like in illustrator for best quality. Once saved import that illustrator file straight into FLASH and add you code or whatever. For FLASH set the export setting to about 30 percent. The swf’s come out looking pretty good even at full screen as they are vector. They also load quick as the average page size I am getting is around 40kb.

Cheers

Another satisfied customer, good job fonz!, code was labelled and articulated well, great and easy to understand instructions.

This is the obvious choice if your looking around for a dynamic flip book gallery on this site..

No problem Fonz go for it.

Yes I agree it is a good flipper and at a great price. Fonz has done a great job and if you know abit of FLASH you can add your own things.

I was looking at some other flippers and they wanted like $400 US for a license to use on a commercial CDROM ! Whats the difference between 1000 people viewing it on the net than a CDROM ?
