Hi Reason lovers,

I’m interested in buying some cool Reason refills, so I’d like to know what your favorites are :). They can be either real instruments (strings, brass, woodwinds etc.) or synth – electronic stuff.

Thanks,

Chris

Yay! Finally my reason expertise can be shared with others LOL .

Get the Recoustics by New Atlantis, easily one of my best refill purchases. It has a few dozen instruments but I’d say maybe 4-5 are really worth it. It has to be said though, those 4-5 instruments are very good though and totally worth the purchase. I really like New Atlantis… actually anything by them is amazing.

Loop Loft Cinematic Drums are pretty good. If there is a specific sound you want, you are better off going on KONG and making it yourself but they do the job pretty well if you just want something epic sounding.

I’ve been flirting with the idea of picking up Polar Elements and Physical Therapy series by New Atlantis (again) it seems amazing but mostly if you’re into chill/new age music.

I also bought “Pressure” (again) by new Atlantis. It’s good and cheap, but only really worth the money if you are doing a full horror movie soundtrack or something. Otherwise it’s a real extravagance (even at 19 bucks).

The free ElectroMechanical keys set is a MUST (especially since it’s free to registered Reason users) It was my favourite Rhodes/Wurlitzer voice till I tried out Scarbee Vintage Keys on Kontakt.

Hope that was useful

Also…. DON ’T be tempted by “free” refills. They’re normally rubbish and you waste more time than it’s worth going through the sounds and finding nothing useful. It really is worth paying for a good ReFill, especially if you are a committed Reason user.

Hi TortoiseTree :)

Thank you so much for your suggestions, I’ll definitely look into them. Your music sounds excellent, are you using other programs / plugins besides Reason?

Thanks! Yeah, I started experimenting with Kontakt Komplete (using Logic Pro as my DAW ) since Sept. this year. Otherwise it’s been Reason for me since I started using DAW ’s (whilst I did use MusicMaker 15 before starting to really compose LOL ).

Still a committed Reason man I still compose about half my stuff on Reason, I am yet to combine Reason with Kontakt (and Logic) using the ReWire function but I will try one day.

Yeah I’m a Reason fan too :D From all the DAWs I’ve tried so far I like it the most.

Thanks again for the very useful tips :)

I just bought reason 6.5 but I’m also searching for new sounds, specially orchestral or strings refills and besides Miroslav I don find anything worth it, @TortoiseTree any ideas about that type of refills ?

Btw, Zero-G has lots of good refills available. :)

There is the Proppellerhead String ReFill… I’ve read reviews and most of them say that the extra price really isn’t worth it so don’t get it. To get a pretty decent realistic sound I combine different types of string sounds. I personally have more problems with horns. Like a smooth sounding French Horn sound, I’m normally fine with…. but a nice and crisp brass section sound is a bit harder, I normally mix sounds as well but even that is hard. The new Brass Section ReFill on Proppellerhead’s website looks amazing, I haven’t upgraded to 6.5 yet so I can’t get it… tell me if you like it.
