Hey mafloral! A great place to start is simply by listing all the music files by # of sales. I’m sure some of our best-selling authors here would also be glad to give you some hints and tips. :-)

my best sellers are corporate music. and that category seems to grow very fast. but all in all, every category has their own market. so its way better for us to do the best shot for each uploads :) cheers.

I mean i am new and i am not sure on what really sells and also what is my music used for. I am a progressive nut but love all types of music. All your comments and advice will be big help to start out, to have some ideas.

My portfolio tells me happy stuff sells better so far. Major keys seem to be popular. The simpler the better too.

it would be neat if we could find out what are the common search terms people use on this site

@mafloral:

Do you like newer or older prog or all? BTW , I don’t know what DAW you use, but the Mellotron in the Abbey Road Keys refill for Reason is amazing. ELP and Yes are my favorites.

Hey RobGD

I like all kinds of music, but my favorite is progressive and classical music. My favorite band is Dream Theater, Symphony X, Adagio and bands that create that type of music. One of my favorite bands from the 80’s was Yngwie Malmsteen and the Rising Force. As for equipment i use Mixcraft 4.5 and i use a usb keyboard which is the M-Audio KeyRig 49. The sounds in mixcraft are amazing and you can load sounds from VST as well.

Oh, i almost forgot to mention RUSH . They are the Prog Godfathers.

Cheers

I don’t know if prog sells. I’ve put together a short 70’s era prog style piece and I’ll see what happens. I would like to hear some more so keep going! I heard all sorts of DT influences in your progriff track. Loved it. “What’s your name” will sell, just give it a little time. I can’t see how it couldn’t. It’s really edgy and cool. “Darkness falls” is horror movie action heaven. You’re guitar sound is excellent. Good stuff. ;) You’re music is dynamic and very intense. It’s only a matter of time until sales come. I didn’t sell anything for the first month. Now it seems things are picking up and I am getting somewhere. Each month since June has a few more.
