Hi everyone, I wanted to ask two questions about features on the marketplaces:
Q1) Should community privileges (ie. forum commenting and file commenting) be a privilege? So for instance, we could make it so that you can only participate if you have successfully uploaded a file or have purchased something.
The downside would be that new members could not ask about files on file pages or forums until they’d purchased one thing. But they could still send the author sitemail.
Q2) Are popular search results useful? So right now we have 3 “popular results” which pop up at the top of each search. Should they stay or should they go in the redesign?
So I’d like to do this type of thing more in the future, but in order for it to work, please can you:
a) Make your answers short and to the point. b) If someone has a differing opinion, don’t argue with them.
I can’t promise that your answers will be our only consideration as we’re also looking to other sources of feedback, but it would be REALLY helpful to know what everyone thinks on these two issues.
Thanks everyone!

q1) no
q2) yes
Q1) I think that everyone should have the right to say what they want to say about a product or on the forums. If a person is being rude or otherwise innapropriate he will be taken care of by the mods. System hasn’t failed yet.
Q2) I can’t really say anything here as I rarely browse files as a buyer. It’s nice when you have a high selling business card
So right now we have 3 “popular results” which pop up at the top of each search
I think this one is like a nuclear fusion effect. Can be good for some people and bad for other people. Showing these items will make them more popular, buyers will look less at other solutions (which could be potentially better or not) because they’ll trust the general opinion. So more sales -> more popular -> more sales etc.
That could be snif snif for authors with items ast place/position 4, 5 and so on.
Just something to think about.

On a side note, you guys should integrate a forum poll, would be perfect for things like this.
q1) no, in my opinion it’s very important that new members can ask questions, and get answers from other members right away. That way they will feel accepted, and will realize right away how great this community is
q2)Regular buyers will give the best answer on this question.

a) no, but perhaps there is another solution to the implied problem.
b) yes.
1) No but i think there is an issue there that need addressing, just not in this way
2) No, popular files get enough promotion IMO
