just curious if anyone has experienced anything like this before
I use notepadd++ and up untill very recently iv loved it, but im noticing some strange behaviour and cant work out whats causing it
Basically, when i finish a file, say a plugin or wp theme, when i upload it it changes all on its own (adding lines here and there) so by the time i re download the file it looks weird and has a lot of lines added which in turn cause some errors (header already sent etc)
I cant fix them by removing the lines but does anyone know whats going on and how i can get round it? am i doing something wrong?
iv used it for over a year but its only start this over the last few days
Not trying to make you hate Notepad++, but you should absolutely try Sublime Text 2:
Mac and PC
Edit: I got Notepad++ but I never had this problem with it… It’s been a long long time since I used it (Because of Sublime Text 2) so it may be a version bug, did you update to the last version?
I had a similar issue too on Windows when I saved a html file with notepad++.
Iv used sublime and its nice n all, but it struck me as bit costly for no benefits at all
I think you may be onto something about the updates Crakken, ill see if an older version still has this
Its a shame really as i have themes floating around the web and I cant be sure the code is the same as when I originally hit ‘save’
I had the same problem once, and it’s probably the same thing I had. Nothing to do with notepad++ and instead is your ftp client. Try uploading your files in BINARY mode instead of TEXT mode. (Also check if there is an AUTO option, and force it as always BINARY , because AUTO may be using TEXT when uploading php/html files)
That solved my problem
As eduvoindo said – 98% it’s a FTP client issue.
thanks eduvoindo that appears to have solved it!!
Thanks for your reply! im really glad I posted now as my faith in np++ has been fully restored
ok so im having more beef
it became apparent whilst i was trying to upload a theme to the wp.org repository
basically something is still somehow off with np++ but if i open up the file in say windows notepad some of the line where showing as on huge line, rather than neatly on separate lines as it looks in np++
anyone else experienced this kind of problem, if so how did you get round it?
Well most of my (np++) files when opened with windows notepad they look like you say. But hey, who cares about windows notepad anyway? If you try to open your files on a decent code editor, they will all look ok.
Reason must be, because windows notepad handles tabs (and other stuff) in a different way.
Still, why bother with windows notepad? try dreamweaver, you’ll see everything is cool
