Hello folks,

I believe it might be useful to hear a little from AJ people who’ve successfully added the VideoHive collaboration aspect to their workflow.

We can start off with a small list of basic general questions, and if people come up with additional ones, we’ll edit those in. Of course, you’re free answer in any way you want.

In any case, here it is:

  1. How did it start for you? Did a VH author contact you, or viceversa?
  2. Do you still actively browse VH in search for videos that could use your music, or has the process become a matter of using VH videos as inspiration in the first place?
  3. Has it ever gone the other way around (i.e. VH author creates stuff inspired by one of your tracks)?
  4. Are you constantly asked to create special edits of your watermarked preview so that it fits a VH author’s video? (1).
  5. Do you have any advice? For example, something you’ve learned from your particular experience that you didn’t expect when you got started.

Thank you!

(1) I ask that because I’ve noticed that plenty of VH videos are like 35 seconds long or something.

Hey RedGiant, here’s my two cents:

1. In all cases, a VideoHive author contacted me.

2. No, I don’t actively browse VideoHive, though I will check out new works by authors I’ve collaborated with.

3. I don’t think so, although I have collaborated with some VH authors more than once so it’s possible that subsequent works have been influenced by my musical style. But I think that VH authors have a pretty good idea of what they’re trying to get across and are looking for matching background music to fit their vision.

4. I don’t think I’ve ever been asked to do this. One time there was a problem with a preview file sound quality when compressed in the video, so I supplied a watermarked WAV , but I think that was it.

5. I’m not sure what advice I can offer except to be friendly and professional when collaborating (of course I’d say this about any form of communication with other authors or buyers). I’m always honored when someone wants to use my music and it’s exciting to see it in action with some great video, so it’s easy for me to be enthusiastic when contacted. It’s possible that others may say that you should pick and choose who you collaborate with, but I’ve never turned down a VH collab and in all cases I haven’t regretted that.

1. VH author contacted me.
2. I enjoy browsing VH for inspiration, especially when it comes to creating logos or idents. I’m constantly trying to improve the timing and dramatic structure of my items, so they can support the visual as good as possible.
3. I only have two VH projects using my music so far and I’m fortunate that one VH project was inspired by my featured track. Totally synced to the music, which is very cool.
4. Not yet.
5. The only advice I can give is: be patient. Good collaborations will come. For example:When I upload a new track and browse Photodune for a nice picture for my ‘coverart’, I bookmark many items. In the meantime, I have a huge list of great pictures just waiting for the right track. I bet VH authors do the same. They bookmark your tracks and when they fit a new project, you’ll both be happy :)

Useful information, guys. Thank you.

So the direction of collaboration requests tends to be VH -> AJ. Interesting.

Cheers!

1. Some authors contacted me a couple of times before, but my most successful collaborations are with guys that never asked me if it’s ok or not to use my preview files and for that I’m extremely grateful :)

2. From time to time I check out the popular files section on videohive and the portfolios of VH authors I follow and that’s it…

3. No

4. No again :)

5. The same as Basspartout – be patient! Make music that is inspired by somebody ( but not copy/paste :P ) and inspire someone else with it. Don’t forget to always have fun and try to do your best, all the time.

Hello all

Same here, VH authors contacted me and asked if it’s ok to use my preview file. There are about 10 VH projects which are using some of my music. If i check the number of sales of the VH projects and the number of sales of the used track, it’s maybe 50% of the people who also bought the music for the project. The best selling is the one, i created the music especialy for the videoproject. There it’s around 80%.

So my advice would be to write tailormade music for VH projects, but it’s not easy to convince VH authors about it ;)
