while its nice it shouldnt be used for the majority of themes parts because people will want to customize it, you can use it for buttons, social icons, and so on…

I used to use them, but kept running into support issues. For example, I would always use a CSS sprite when I put in little social icons and what not in themes. Then it kept happening where people would want to add an icon or add some social site I’ve never heard of. People would get SO confused by the fact that all the social icons were on one image.

“Huh? Add the icon to the bottom of the image and figure out the number of pixels down to the icon and add that in the background position amount to a new class? Say what?!” ... lol long story short, I rarely use sprites anymore unless it’s like a main menu or something that people rarely change.
