When I’m writing some songs, I could easily go over the 2 minute mark, but then the price jumps up. I’ve been finding myself trimming some down to the keep the price lower, but what you’re sacrificing is not giving the buyer as much song to work with/edit.

Question: Do you find songs under the maximum amount (right now: $14) sell better? Are you finding it worth more to get paid less per song sold by making your song $11 dollars, but end up selling more as $11 is a more affordable price? Or does the $3 price difference not make a difference in your amount of song sales? Just wondering what people’s experience is on this.

IMHO it does not matter. If your song is suitable for client he will pay 3$ more :)

I’m too new to AJ to know if it affects sales but right now I compose my music without any regard to the final length, just what I feel is right.

I don’t think the price tag really has that much effect. People are just looking for something that sounds great and has the same vibe as their projects. Also keep in mind it’s much easier for an editor to clip time off of a track opposed to trying to loop it.

In my opinion, absolutely don’t trim your tracks down unless you feel they’re too repetitive

Do you really think $14 is a lot? I always thought it’s ridiculously cheap, and in the beginning I was reluctunt to sell really good track for such small amount of money, which was probably my mistake. But imagine Toyota or Adidas paying $14 for their ads, while broadcasting costs of these ads probably are thousands dollars or more.

Well, it all depends on a price of a product, that out music will be used in. Probably $14 is expensive for somebody’s YT private movie taken with a toy camera, but I don’t expect many people to pay at all for the music for private amateur films. If a production is commercial, why would they care about $3 difference?

But maybe I’m wrong and making very cheap items is the key – I saw people with all items in portfolio priced $8 and $11.

For commercials you must buy extended license (except web) that’s why I’m accepting these low prices. But it’s still cheap price comparing to using custom Royalty Menaged music

Cool. I was just wondering other people’s thoughts. That’s all. Not saying that songs here are overpriced. They obviously aren’t. And yes, TJMusic, don’t forget about when extended licenses need to be used! Thanks for your feedback, guys! TheSecession’s comment was the most helpful to me. Thanks!
