I’m thinking of starting a blog about selling music online. It would be an account of my own experience but also, hopefully, a resource for other people who’d like to do the same thing. What would fellow AJ-ers find useful/interesting/of value. Or is it a crap idea?

I’m thinking interviews, ways to promote your tracks, what genres are big sellers, my own ups and downs – possibly quiry, with a voice, but (hopefully) helpful.

Throwing it open as a possiblity. Good idea?

Please let me know what you think. Are there any blogs that anoyone knows about that are on this topic already?

Cheers!

I think it’s a great idea. I’ve been thinking of doing this myself, but I’ve been too lazy to do it yet.

If you can spare time for this, I think you should go ahead with it. But making music should remain your priority.

If you do go through with it, I’d be interested to read you :)

It’s a really good way of getting those extra hits! Research some seo strategies and write up some unique articles and you’ll be getting hits in no time. I’m actually working on a website which will be up soon and it also will have a blog.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the feedback and encouragement everyone. I’ve spent the morning creating a blog, and have written my first post. It’s a work in progress of course, but hopefully it can grow in to something a little more substantial. I’d be honoured if any of you want to subscribe. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements, blog ideas, additional resources or pages I could add.

Here’s my first post – http://wp.me/p3Ww84-2x (hope the link works)

The site address is www.sellingmymusiconline.com (catchy title eh?).

Once again, thanks for the feedback and comments. I’m actually getting more excited about writing a blog at the moment than writing music, which is probably not a good thing. I’m sure it will pass.

Hi DB Lever, glad my story resonated with you. I reckon there are a lot of us out there. This is the great thing about online marketplaces for music. We don’t have to rely on record companies and publishers anymore to get our music heard. We can do it ourselves.

We can all be musical entrepreneurs these days, and have fun doing it too.
