Been going through my head for a while, a support idea which could work!

Basically one person(s) runs a support forum of support forums, they host support forums for other authors and either just host the support forums or provide the support as well.

Example:

Any “subscribing” author would get a subdomain for support e.g. ivor.supportforums.com, they can then get access their own forums on the subdomain.

They can also then purchase support for their forum e.g. they can “hire” 1 person to run their forums for x amount per day or month, and choose the length of the support help e.g. 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 12 months etc.

This could be used for new authors who don’t want the hassle of running a forum, an established author with a lot of support or an author that is taking a holiday and needs cover for the forums.

1) Would this be something useful to authors? 2) What features would you expect (author verification, guaranteed support (when hiring support staff)? 3) How much would you realistically pay for a service like this?

Would love to have such forums with skilled and reliable support staff. We plan to outsource support or part of it in the near future.

It will be good to have a guarantee that buyer’s question will be handled in xx amount of time, let’s say 24 hours.

Price, hmm.. it should be reasonable :D

Kind of sounds like Ticksy except for hiring someone to do support. And that’s not really feasible because every file is so different.

Just had a look at Tiksy and although it’s a great app, it’s a ticket system and not a forum. my ideas is for each author to have their own forums, where they can have unlimited staff with profiles and be able to “hire” someone to do the support.

The great thing about forums is your can have anyone answer questions, and they can be searched by new buyers, where support tickets are private to the buyer and support.

Re: hired help – most developers can pick up someone else work within a few minutes, doing basic changes like logos, backgrounds etc, anything more complicated could be passed onto the author of the files. I would guess that a lot of support questions from buyers will be in the beginner category of changing x, adding x etc.

The main idea is to take away the hassle of running the forum, and be able to call on help when they need to take a break.
