Proper diet, high protein low carbs, sleep well, eat regularly, exercise at least 40 minutes per day! You will see results every couple of weeks and you’ll start feeling better after the first few days! The most important thing though is eating properly and sleeping properly! Doing anything else without this is useless!
I lost about 53 lb / 24 kg in 8 months and I am picking my training up again this week (I’ve been sick so I could not do any training).
I don’t do any special diets, I just avoid certain stuff such as sweets outside the weekends and I try to eat less and instead eat more meals.
I work out every day (at home). Just regular push-ups, sit-ups, exercises for diffrent parts of my arms and legs and so once per 2nd day. And the rest of the days I just run/jogg which is a very good way to loose weight!
Focus on your goal, it may take years before you get there but it is all worth it! I’m still 30KG away but I really feel alot better now than I did before.
“You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be great”.
I second Enabled’s post.
More specifically: I’m on low carb, no carb after 4PM, lots of gym and proteins only for the first 2 hours after working out.
I also ditched every sort of alcohol besides white wine on mineral water when partying. As far as I know that’s the combination with the lowest calorie count. I eliminated normal bread for protein low-carb bread and I replaced every sugary drink as fruit juices or sodas with water and light products.
That’s my ideal plan, especially since no carb after 4PM means everything goes before 4PM
This works out really great for me, not only physically but also mentally.
“You’re only one workout away from a good mood!”
When changing your eating habits you need to choose a method that works well for you, but it’s even more important to choose something that you really commit to. You should not diet for two months or half a year and switch back to your regular habits as this will make you gain back your weight most likely. Choose a healthy way of living you can marry and stick to for the rest of your life.

Good luck and have fun

but seriously, cardio + diet, high protein low card seems to be the most efficient(at least for me)

I’ve yo-yo’ed my whole life. All of the above things work, but what really starts melting fat (at least for me) is long distance running.
