Thanks for all your feedback, as we are already running this year’s Envato Awards we can’t make any changes reactively, except the copy change – thanks @illuminations but I’ve taken your thoughts on board and we’ll think about how to make next year’s awards open to more people. I agree that we need to celebrate across all your amazing items and we are working on some ideas to do this better.
At the moment the criteria for Envato Awards is that the item has to be one of the top 6 selling items on the Marketplace in that year. By ‘best’ we are of course referring to ‘best selling’.
We know that whether an item is the ‘best’ is subjective and depends on individual buyers and users needs, but we also wanted to use language that celebrates these items and their obvious popularity with buyers.
I hope that gives you some explanation. Again, thanks for your feedback.

This is Envato’s trademark approach. They try to sell popular “bolts and nuts” to those who comes here to buy T-shirts. The same happens when they try to get votes.
