I’ve been an AudioJungle author for a few months, but just made my first purchase. As an author, I’ve realized the importance of getting good ratings from your buyers. I’ve also noticed that very few buyers actually rate my items (1 in 10 buyers have given me ratings), and I’ve heard this from others as well.

Well, I think at least one reason for this is that to me, it wasn’t entirely obvious how to rate an item! I did eventually find the ability to rate it on my download tab, and in fact the link in the email takes you to that download tab.

However, I think it would be beneficial to add the ability to rate the item in as many places as possible, to make it very easy and obvious for buyers to rate the items they bought. Here are some ideas:

  • Put a note in the email. e.g. “Please rate the item once you’ve downloaded it and had a chance to review it.” And then put a link to the download page where you can rate it
  • If you bought an item, you should be able to rate it on the item’s detail page. For example, it could say “You bought this item, please rate it now,” or once you rated it, it could say “You rated this item *
  • Maybe have it show up in the Author Dashboard. e.g. “You purchased item such-and-such, please rate it now.” And then put the ability to rate it right there in the dashboard.
  • (Maybe this is being done now, I don’t know since I just bought my first item today) After a few days, send an email to the buyer reminding them to rate the items they purchased, and then give them a link

Anyway, that’s my two cents. If you make it too difficult to rate an item, people are just going to give up and not do it. But if you make it painfully obvious how to rate, then they probably will.

Additional remind the customer to evaluate the purchased thing, I think, unnecessary, and this will cause irritation. The assessment process is voluntary and is simple enough. In addition, customers can to give the characteristic in the comments .. Just my opinion.

Alisiya, yes, maybe sending the customer an email reminding them to review is a bit much. I could see that getting annoying, especially if you buy a lot of items.

The same here on Videohive, and I guess throughout all the marketplaces. For me it’s about 10% ratio, something like Jason said. The ideas you’re mentioning sound really reasonable, +1

Sending a reminder to buyers could be little annoying. There should be better place for rating and easy to find. I think a lot of people do know how to rate items. Some people do not know that they can rate items.

I think the ratings should stay on the Downloads tab but they could use some improvements.

1) just have one of those Notice bars (like the “we’re closing tuts+” and “new author to reach $1000000 in sales”), and once in a while make it show up on the downloads tab only, prompting users to rate their items through some amazingly written message. Because if those notice bars are already a proven way to spread a message to the marketplaces, anything other than that is probably not even read by the buyer or can be annoying and counterproductive.

2) in the downloads tab, next to the sorting area (or above the download button and stars) that empty space could have some quick instructions on how to rate items.

To my mind this good idea deserves special attention and consideration.
