I’m in the process of re-evaluating the ‘business’ side of my work and I know that designers/creatives often get taken advantage of because we love what we do and can neglect the paperwork aspect of running a profitable business.
I’d like to share these links with you in the hope that it offers you some protection/guidance for future business.
Take a look at the illustration questionnaire http://www.creativebusiness.com/forms.lasso
If you want an indepth look at making up a design agreement- download the PDF from AIGA |the professional association for design http://www.aiga.org/content.cfm/standard-agreement They also have a link to a salary survey to help you gain some insight to your worth as a designer/creative.
Here’s to a profitable 2010!
Thank you for the excellent resources!!
Another invaluable tool I have found while working as a freelancer has been the book:
Creating The Perfect Design Brief http://bit.ly/5GStSf
This book helped open my eyes to the subtle details of creating a professional business presence to compliment my work.
I think any effort as designers to learn more about the business end of things as well as tighten up the business aspect is a huge plus ++
Chapter 10 looks like it has some great info. It looks like an easy to read business book, not too technical but very informative.
I am searching for a french one if someone see it just post or email me please
Damn, would you believe it if I tell you that today I had to make an offer for a client and before that I decided to check out the TF forums and I got here. And if this isn’t luck.
Big Thanks, Tamixes!!!
