Hi everyone.
I’m not a computer specialist, I’m a Windows user, that means that I click on things and expect them to do what I need, without understanding too much of the process. That’s why I need help from people with more knowledge, so I’m asking here.
I constantly have same problem with different software.
I install it, run it, works just fine, close the program, then try to run it again and just don’t start.
I open “Task Manager” and in “Applications” tab the program is not showing, I open “Process” tab and there it is showing, taking some percents of memory, no CPU . On screen don’t appera nothing.
I tried double clicking, right click and “run as”, from “Start” menu “Run”... nothing works.
I use legal, licensed software, not cracks.
Win XP, Service Pack3, Intel Core2 Duo @ 2.20GHz, 2 GB ram.
The problem I had with: Audacity, Opera, Mozilla. Now I’m considering to buy “Pro Tools M-Powered” and I have same problem with the demo, I just can’t get it started… what if the complete version will react the same ?...
Please help.

It has happened to me sometimes, too. I usually solve it by going to the process tab of the task manager, and just shut down the process. (select it and hit delete). Then, try to start it again.

With Opera or Mozilla didn’t work as well, so now I just switched to Google Chrome, but how should I do about Pro Tools ?

Have you tried cutting off the process and then restarting the software?
What is happening is that you are closing the app but not terminating the software, then when you click on the icon again it basically sees it as a duplicate since the process is already up.

I feel dirty for saying this, but maybe you should try a Mac…most people using ProTools use Macs.

Now I’m writing to Digidesign technical support, but is a more complicated process than finding life on Mars.

I’m on a mac and while it is a great machine, windows works. It works. It can throw a nasty error, but it works.
Oh and most mac users would totally fail at using windows because they don’t have the skill to troubleshoot within win.
Most common issues:
1) Your AV is somehow blocking it. Check if the program has full permissions in your AV 2) ...format the drive.
I can’t really help you out without actually seeing the problem.
