Site Outages... Planned and Unplanned

Another update for you all.

Vahid and I had a big conference call with the hosting guys (something more difficult to organise than you’d expect being in different countries/timezones) to work out our plan of attack.

Tomorrow morning around 9am-ish our time we’ll be taking the site down briefly to update some drivers in our RAID array and to add some extra measuring tools in there too. That should be a very short outage, no different to when we usually update code.

From there we should have what we need in place to do the hard drive upgrade and ideally this should all be finished within a few days.

A couple of days ago now the disk reboot happened and we’ve had no downtime notifications so far. We’re pretty confident that the disk problems have gone away.

If you’re still noticing site slowness post back here and we’ll investigate a further.

As an added bonus – we also switched our previews over to using Amazon Cloudfront – which should speed up all the previews, especially on VideoHive where the speed problems have been especially noticeable.

Im guessing this was the reason why i had such trouble uploading over a week ago that the system was struggling. the upload kept crashing after 30 – 45mins i went through this about 8 times before success! Got there in the end though.

Good to be kept posted though on all your progress!

Hey John, These things happen and I am glad you guys are so open and honest with us. I know it must be a lot of work at the moment, and I am sure most of us understand. Keep it up devs
