Hi there i’d like to suggest a few things that will probably make the marketplaces even better.
@all Feel free to add your own suggestions below here are some:
1. There are a lot of double posts on item pages and in forum threads.
My suggestion here is to disable the Post Reply button after it has been clicked once, therefore no double posts will ever be created.
2. Rating System Is Good Enough but cannot protect against bogus and accidental ratings which can break a theme’s rating.
My suggestion here is to add a simple javascript popup confirming that the user has rated the correct amount of stars for example:
The user has clicked on one star thinking you need to click all the stars one by one to give it a 5 star rating.
A popup appears saying: Are you sure you want to rate Chuck Norris’ Ultra Mega Powerful WordPress Theme 2 stars?
They can then rectify their mistake.
3. No Collections on Item Pages
You cannot view which collections an item is in like you could before the redesign.
4. 40% of WordPress buyers upload the entire Themeforest file and this causes a broken stylesheet message and the theme wont work.
My suggestion is on WordPress themes in the Downloads page just add a little note saying they need to first unzip the entire download and find the theme folder or zip inside.
5. Better price adjustment tools for elite authors.
Yes, i’m not an elite author yet but i will be there shortly. Surely Elite Authors should have the power to adjust the price of an item whenever they want. Currently you have to wait an entire month to update the price. Some authors use Envato Marketplaces as their full time job so what if their entire portfolio was raised to the maximum price and they got rubbish sales they would have to wait another month to lower the price again. They should be able to simply go into the item’s settings and and select the price, click update and, bam, instant price change.
6. There seems to be a lot of themes being released.
This means that something is wrong. Quality standards in terms of design and coding needs to be increased again. The latest themes are nice but some lack consistency of padding for example, ive seen some weird errors that i would definitely soft reject the theme for. If there is one problem like a lack of padding in the footer that is obvious it should be fixed before it gets approved.
In terms of WordPress coding. Standards should be set in place just like HTML . Themes should not produce any PHP notices, warnings or errors even with WP_DEBUG turned on. There are basic errors in most theme authors code (that included my own at some point) that produces PHP notices like undefined indexes and undefined offset errors to name a few.
7. Location of referrals: nada.
Theres currently no way of telling where referral clicks came from.
8. Exclusive/Non Exclusive Items
I would love to sell a particular theme here and on my own site. BUt currently that means I have to disable exclusivity for all my items.
My suggestion is you can opt in/out exclusivity for certain items.
9. Donate to Japan
Why not?
10. WTF does an extended license allow I can’t understand legal mumbo jumbo?!
I myself and a few authors cannot understand what the extended license allows the purchaser to do. A quick summary of the terms would be a big help
Just thought i’d share my opinion

We really need to know where the referrals are coming from in order to adjust any marketing strategies we have running
Though I have no idea how big of an impact this is on the development of TF…

I agree with your pop-up idea, but I would add the following: (or something along these lines)
Being 1 the worst and 5 the best rating, are you sure you would like to rate XX’s theme ‘ABC Premium Theme Forever’ with 2 stars?
Basically just make the user understand that 1 is bad, and 5 is good. I have read multiple times that buyers tend to mix those up.

Although I agree with you, that’s impossible. The economy in this place needs a solid base. Imagine 80% of all elite authors (which are those who move the market’s economy the most) start swapping prices like crazy apes. That would just kill this marketplace. I do think the time could be decreased, eg. to 15 days.
A few extra points I would like to add:
11. The classic WHO IS FOLLOWING YOU ?!
Just a crazy-simple feature to know who the heck is following you; and of course, a full list displaying who you are following.
I think that’s the most important, for now.
Regards,

+1 – Yes that sounds better actually 10 days sounds reasonable enough.
12. In Forum – Bold new / updated threads from last visit. This would be very nice.

The envato staff should include a campaign feature like:
?ref =Username&campaign=testcampaign
So we can create campaigns with just include a single word into our referral link. A lot of affiliate sites use this technique.

16 themes in the past 3 days. Themes simply don’t have enough time to get the sales going.
