I was reading this over at SO: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8856893/difference-between-isotope-and-masonry-jquery-plugins
Then I stumbled upon the last reply of the chosen answer:
yet alot of authors in Themeforest use isotope despite the license.

And the fact that it has been thumbed up even two times only made me real mad. It makes me think that Themeforest is seen as a source of copyright infringing themes. I’m sure reviewers check if the authors have the required license or at least, I hope so. What do you people think about that?

I don’t think they do.

Code theft is fairly common, especially with new authors.

Reviewers dont, and i dont see how they could anyway. Neither the guy who assumes a lot of authors dont. I bet (hope) most author buy it, 25$ is cheap for such a well coded plugin.

They could soft reject the item and ask to see the license.

i still dont see how they could verify a license if not from an envato marketplace, i guess they consider it’s author responsability as you confirm when you upload an item that :

‘Any images, sounds, video, code, flash, or other assets that are not my own work, have been appropriately licensed for use in the file preview or main download.’

True, true. Thanks for clearing this bit for me. I always end up forgetting this.

I bought Isotope, because 25$ is not so much for a such plugin which allow us to use it in all our projects, commercial or personal. So, what I can say, I can’t confirm that, because after purchase I have not received anything that can show my licence, maybe only Paypal transation number.

And, envato can not verify the licence.

But, anyway, I bought it because is a good plugin and can be considered like a donation.

Cheers. :)

I don’t know how others did it, but I’m using it and I have bought the license. When I purchased it I sent a message to the isotope developer associating the purchase to my username here. Also when I upload my first theme using it I have stated to the reviewer that I bought the license…
I think reviewers are aware of this and always check these things.
