I saw at least one s3 slider that uses navigation here but never saw an example on the net. I think it was a custom script that enables the navigation. I had used the regular s3 slider at one of my early themes, I checked the code and I saw you can set the interval of the slides by miliseconds @ trigger code via the variable timeOut like:

   $('#s3slider').s3Slider({
      timeOut: 4000
   });
