Just wondered if I could remove one of my older templates from being for sale here on Themeforest and offer it for free on my website?
I know, I know it could still make me money but truth is it might be a better investment for me to offer it for free and drive some follow up sales.
Can I do this?
Of course you can, if you don’t sell it in envato then you can pretty much do as you like with your files
Your buyers can get mad if they see that the template they paid is being offered for free …
Just my 2 cents

Yeah thats how I’d feel too tbh. I might just take out a few features and limit the number of skins.
Be good to get an official word on this though..
I’m doing it but I just give only PSD
Are you taking the template off the marketplace or leaving the rest up?
Thats interesting actually because what I could do is release certain elements free

I have 40 items before and I deleted half of my themes and then update those deleted themes (PSD only) and give it for free in my blog site
- Microlancer Beta Tester
- Author had a Free File of the Month
- Has been a member for 3-4 years
- Item was Featured
- Author was Featured
- Austria
- Exclusive Author
- Referred between 200 and 499 users
You can remove it from TF wait some time and offer it for free in a couple of weeks/month
Buyers don’t find it for free only if the purchased it a while ago
May you should make a “light” Version and brand it as well as “light” – Possible you can offer the “light” Version for free while still having the “Pro” Version selling on themeforest. That way you can difference between actual buyers who you should give support and the users of the free version who don’t get support
- Sold between 250 000 and 1 000 000 dollars
- Community Moderator
- Author was Featured
- Item was Featured
- Bought between 50 and 99 items
- Referred between 1000 and 1999 users
- Has been a member for 3-4 years
- Repeatedly Helped protect Envato Marketplaces against copyright violations
To my knowledge, once you remove an item from the marketplace you’re no longer bound by the exclusivity agreement, so there wouldn’t be anything keeping you from doing what you like with it.
Managing buyer’s reactions is another issue altogether, but I see some good ideas here
If you want a 100% official response, you probably want to contact support directly.
