So i have had mixed responses when I’ve asked about using free 3rd party textures, i have heard that including the texture in your project is okay, while i have also heard that you may provide a link to the texture for download. So say i wanted to use a texture from a site listed on the “Author resources” thread, if i wanted to include the texture in my project what would be the right way to do, or can i even do that at all?

You can use it in your preview, but you can’t include it for download in your project. The best way is to link the file in the user guide.

Also best to include a choice of files and the disclaimer that “while all the links were live at the time of going to press, you are not able to guarantee their continued availability online”.

Also, make sure that the licence for the texture in question is appropriate for use by you in your preview and your potential customers in their projects.

I like to include the licence details with the links to the images in my user guides.

If you’re interested, you can find links to open versions of most of my user guides on the item’s description page.

You can use it in your preview…

...if appropriately licensed for ‘commercial’ use surely.

Yep…. that was in my third paragraph :)

You can shot your own. Grab a camera and shoot some walls, wood and concrete.
