Quality files rejected

I am getting quite frustrated at the reviewing here because very good, high quality files are being rejected by some reviewers with no reason given. Who are these people, are they submitting themselves and perhaps don’t want the competition ;-) I have these files on some of the big sites that sell with no problems. It’s so frustrating because the process of preparing files and uploading here is quite time consuming in itself just to be turned down for no real reason. Of course there are other reasons I accept and usually rectify but having my best sounds rejected by some reviewers makes me suspicious.

I am very happy to be here and am making some sales so of course I want to have my best sounds selling here. I am just not happy with not being given a reason why SOME files have been rejected. The last batch came back almost all rejected and the reviewer was new.

Hello

I can’t answer your question really, but from my experience here on AJ, i can only tell that there was always a given reason for file rejection.

As i can see, you have mostly FX in your portfolio, it could maybe be, that these FX you are trying to upload go under the section “files we do not need”.

Read here : http://audiojungle.net/wiki/tag/needed-files/

But you should allways raise a support ticket to discuss stuff like this. No one in the Forum can give you a specific answer regarding your item rejection.

Hope this helps a bit.

I agree about the support ticket. I submitted one that, at the time, thought would be accepted and it wasn’t. I thought it was just the reviewer’s tastes. I submitted a support ticket and a different reviewer came back saying it wasn’t what the site was looking for. As some time passed and I cooled down :) I realized it wasn’t my best work and moved on to make better work. Keep going. Don’t give up.

It’s tricky with sfx. I also have a number of rejected files and I’m okay with it when I make a mistake (it happens) or for any other justified reason. But it happened to me a few times that a file gets rejected just because it’s “not what the site needs” or something similar, yet there are similar files already present, sometimes even not as good as my file (and it’s not a sound from any category of “files we don’t need” list).

What the reasons might be, I don’t know. But it can be just a different reviewer = different “taste” or personal opinion. After all, reviewers are humans (are they? :D ).

What to do in those cases? Either write to support, or just let it be and move on…

Support won’t help you with those question. I just got a reply that I should resubmit the item and ask for clarification. Strange since many people are frustrated about the long waiting time. I thought support was the way to go:/

That’s strange indeed. Not that is not the way to go, but I thought that it’s a process that will get you warned and/or banned…

Marbury, I would not worry with that, everybody experience that. But I’m sure it’s not personal. Reviewers here are helpful and friendly. Just strategy here, subjective and narrow choosing the best in reviewers taste. You can learn what they need. Foley sounds and nature are mainly not in this site preferences. But there are other sounds always welcome like game effect, film effects etc. Sometimes someone can miss, when he thinks that sound is not usable, but I’ve sold it many times elsewhere. It’s their right to accept what they want. It can you make angry because uploading process here is really walk through the jungle! Try to upload your great photos also – they pass much easier :)

I asked twice just to be sure. Part of the first reply:

“We’re sorry to hear about your rejected item [...] You are, however, more then welcome to submit your similar item and let the review team explaining why.”

Part of the second reply:

I understand your frustration but the process of resubmitting your file is the best option to receive further clarification about your item. When you submit your file, be sure to leave notes for the reviewer explaining your situation and asking for additional feedback if your item is rejected.

A third time is hardly necessary. Now we know how to do it. If your item is rejected, resubmit it and ask for clarification :stress:

Hi Marb67, I think you have some very nice recordings, so this is not a comment on any of your files. I agree with Urbazon that it can be tricky with sfx. In my personal opinion I think that when you are an sfx author you really have to keep in mind the likely end use of the sound, there are various things that can really limit the number of situations in which a file will be commercially useful. You have to try to imagine who would be buying the file and for what? Should the sound loop or not? Should the sound be 1 minute long, or should it be split into shorter individual sounds? Is it appropriate to apply a fade to the sound?

Sometimes a combination of sounds limits usability, for example (and I’m making this silly example up off the top of my head) if I made the sound effect of “Thunder and Lightning As A Train Passes By”, this is only going to be usable in limited situations, so it is unlikely to sell very well. If a recording is too specific to a certain situation, it won’t have wide usability or much commercial appeal.

Thanks, I take on board all of what you say. I suppose every site has it’s way of doing things . I am only used to uploading and not having the file reviewed. If a file has limited use I would just think it doesn’t hurt to be there anyway but perhaps there is limited space. I can’t complain about sales as the more I have accepted, the more I am getting which is good. It’s better sales than some SFX sites I am with. Not thought about photos, didn’t realize you could submit them here.
