Hey guys and Gals out there,

I have a question for authors with a bit of experience and traction. OK, I joined AJ last fall and was totally new to the concept. I joined a few site and threw some tracks at the wall. Now I have a better idea of what i want to do going forward. However I have sort of a bit of a mix mash of tracks between my exclusive portfolio and my non exclusive one. Funny thing is, they are a bit different, my non exclusive one is the one where I’ve put up some rock tracks, and some have been trucking along with like 8 or 9 sales. I like writing on the old electric, I could churn out riffs all day long if I had to I suppose. But I don’t know if AJ is really the place for that. On the other hand, I kind write more on an acoustic level, and dabbled in a few of those tunes on my exclusive portfolio. Initially they sell…but then sink to the bottom. I’m just getting more into promoting them outside of AJ now, so I’ll see over time how that fairs. I like the rock stuff..but it’s not super challenging for me. Would this be considered a strength? I feel like the direction I would like to go more into though, might be more of a pop or singer songwriter vein. I have some acoustic instruments that I’d like to give a whirl with and see how they fair. So I’m looking to weed out my portfolios and choose a path more or less now I guess. Just looking for opinions or wisdom, from you fellow AJ peeps. :)

Have a Great Weekend!

J

Hey bro
from my personal experience, acoustic goes way better here on AJ rather than rock-things. And it’s truly sad for me )

Yeah, I mean I know a few people here have done the math and worked it out so it’s no “secret” but the “acoustic” genre is the hidden gem around here. Do well in that and you’ll see a nice combination of tracks that sell well immediately and tracks that steadily sell over time!

Thanks guys,

Awesome insight! Acoustic it is. So should I delete my rocks tracks or at least unlink the two portfolios? oddly enough stuff was selling better when they weren’t linked. Confusing buyers possibly? Change the other avatar prob too.

Thanks

J

I’m not sure I understand the thinking behind deleting tracks, unless you think they aren’t very good. Having products to buy, even if they don’t fit your “direction” doesn’t hurt anything, does it?
