PHP Scripts under priced?

Hi there!

I’m about to submit a php application to themeforest and sell it exclusively. But when I check the highest price for a good quality php application, like Clivo it only costs $15.

While Wordpress themes are being sold for $30, and from experience I know the development to create an application takes much longer then creating a Wordpress theme. Don’t take this the wrong way, I build Wordpress themes as well, but this often takes less time to build.

Now my questions to you, is do you think PHP scripts are under priced?

I think that’s one of the reasons, I’ve created an PHP application and it took me quite some time to create. After its finished you still have to debug so everything works good and then its ready for sale.

I’m just not sure if I should sell this app at ThemeForest or try to sell it myself for a more decent price.

Something I forgot to write in the topic post, is that there are HTML templates that share the same price at the highest PHP application price.

Totally agree, the prices now don’t reflect the amount of time and expertise put into scripts.

Clivo took me about two and a half months to complete. Given, I wasn’t working 40 hours a week on it, but I surely tallied about 120 hours. Not to mention small bugs appear or features are demanded which add more time and focus off other projects/clients.

You also have to remember if it is being sold for $15.00, I am only getting $6.00 because Envato’s rates, and I am an exclusive author. So basically, I have put over 120 hours into Clivo and have thus been compensated about $7/hour.

Basically, realize that the startup cost (opportunity cost being your time away from other projects) is very high. If your project is going to take more than 40 hours to complete, I recommend selling it elsewhere.

Yes. However, most of the PHP scripts sold here on Envato are small and lightweight. Hopefully in the future Envato will fix this seeing as PHP work can be quite time consuming.
