Over the past year I lost a good deal of weight working out. But even though I’ve continued to work out, recently I started to gain some back. So today I set up a podium and am going to start working standing up. I’m even throwing away my desk to make sure I stick with it :D

I came to this decision because recently I was watching the news, and a reporter, interviewing a Doctor, and asked him how he stayed in such amazing shape. And he said, “I’m always moving”. And that “working out 1 hour a day isn’t enough, because humans aren’t meant to sit the other 23 hours”. That was me, so his words struck a cord, especially since my metabolism seems to be lower now that I’m getting older. So if you’re in the same boat, (i.e. frustrated with your fitness level), join the party and report back here in a month and tell us if it’s made a difference!

I wish I could set up a podium to work. I have stopped designing as much as I would, because, sitting for long hours at the computer gave me Lower Back & Neck Pain, and yes! Standing up, walking and spending less hours at the comp has reduced the pain a heck of a lot.

I have started working out because for us (people with high metabolism – Hard Gainers) it’s quite impossible to gain weight. And oh! I am taking supplements too, and it’s made a world of difference to my structure and body weight.

Most of the stuff I am designing revolves around fitness :):):)

So just standing for 8hrs? wow that sounds difficult though? Do you find you can still be as productive?

This is very good subject, cause sitting to much is not good at all and we are sitting way to much. I’m thinking of doing something about it as well, not for weigh loss but for health (I don’t have a lot of weigh to loose, maybe 10lb.)

Throwing the desk out is a little to much for me but if you @CodingJack willing to do that then more power to you my friend. I’ll be working on my office in near future and this solution is on my list. I’m thinking to find adjustable desk but as for now I don’t see anything that can fit my taste and budget. Second solution is to buy standing up desk.

It would be great hear from someone who is already working standing up or just some ideas.

So, you’re going to literally throw away your desk?? I think it’s a little extreme. Humans are not supposed to sit for 23 hours, yes, but I’m sure we’re not supposed to stand at same place for 8 hrs..:p

I’ve also started working out a bit more now-a-days. Infact, I’m planning to run half-marathon in the next month end. Tomorrow is my scheduled 10km run. If I can do it successfully, it would be a huge booster for me..:)

Of course, standing reduces more calories than sitting but still the free movement in regular intervals is the key for keeping things natural (costs much arrangements though – but worth). Also standing for more than 30 min without free movement can result strain on particular areas; very similar to sitting.

If you have a child on home, I think you don’t need these things at all! :D

Why not work on an exercise bike and convert handlebars to self levelling anti vibration gyroscopic work station.

You could whack a solar panel on your back, convert kinetic energy to adsl router, and put a desalination drip tray under the bike with a chiller station and tubes fed to a water bottle.

Oh and wear lycra, its good for the circulation and ball cramp … Im told ;)
