Now Purging WordPress 2.8 Themes

I’m sure most of you remember this post: Purging WordPress 2.6 & 2.7 Themes. Well we’re now following that up with a purge of all 2.8 themes.

This time we’re giving everyone 6 weeks to update any themes they may have supporting version 2.8 to the latest WordPress version. Just like last time, if you have a theme that only supports 2.8 you’ll need to provide an update before March 14th otherwise your theme will be soft disabled. Please note that if you don’t submit an update your file will be removed from the library but will remain on the site. After it’s disabled you can still provide an update at any time to bring it back. Providing the update within the 6 week period will guarantee your file remains on the marketplaces.

Again the deadline is March 14, 2011. Post any questions below.

73 themes were soft disabled, not sure how many have been update post the clean out and resubmitted though.

Do the themes only have to work in 3.0+ or do they need to work with the functions like custom menus, featured thumbnail, threaded comment etc.

Great! I think active authors will get more sales with this, but I am guessing the number of WP2 .8-only themes are very low?

Its just a waste of time supporting < 3.0. Its so easy to upgrade wordpress.

Are they purged?

Yep! 89 themes have been soft disabled so if the author chooses to update to 3.x they can be resubmitted for review (just remember our standards are a lot higher than back in 2009 so some would need a design overhaul as well to be approved now ).
