does anybody use the api?
Is this a serious question? It’s down right now because of getting used too often and flooded with too many requests.

Not a stupid question. The answer is, not many users at all. But the apps that were running were out of control. In other words, about 100 users were creating about 90% of our traffic yesterday. That it is why the API has been temporarily shut down.
That is redicculous, even though the API is transfering only text data, 90% is unbeleivable. It was probably a few instances of infinate loops nicking the traffic, probably server ran.

honestly I’m still a little surprised that there weren’t measures in place to prevent this in the first place. I thought time limits on APIs were commonplace.

good job though to the devs for being on top of it and quickly tackling the problem.

Yea, most APIs I have ever worked with have an automatic limit on requests per ‘x’ amount of time.

No worries though devs, these things happen and I’m sure it will get fixed in due time :)

number of requests != number of users
