Occasionally I get a user who has left a comment and his badge says ‘Not Purchased’ but they are asking specific questions about the file that only someone who has purchased the file would know. Yet their badge remains ‘Not Purchased’ after several comments. Also I get a few messages through my profile page and when I check their purchase history it does not show that they have purchased the file, yet they seem to have the file from the questions that they are asking.

Is there a bug in the system or have these buyers obtained the files for free somehow… When I asked them about it they usually insist they have purchased and say that they don’t know how they’re badge says ‘not purchased’ or why there is no purchased history. Sometimes they say they used another account to purchase the file. Is anyone else noticing this? What should we do in these situations?

I faced this for two occasions. One buyer mentioned that he purchased through another account. But there is no way to assure.

Another one mentioned that his boss purchased and let him work on that. I contacted support and they confirmed that this user have 2 accounts.

I have removed my email id from profile page to avoid more complications. If need support, buyers will reach us through the FD form and we know if they purchased.

But I never faced the problem of wrong “Not Purchased” badge.

get them to email you from Flashden. Then you can view their purchase history. I have had a few emails that is obvious they have the file but not brought it :-(

The purchased file flag code on the individual comments is pretty rock solid. If you’re reasonably confident there’s a bug there we can have a look for you but I’m pretty sure it’s OK.

Be aware though that the “purchased this file” flag is based on the time they created the comment. If they purchase the file after that, the original comment will still say “not purchased” but any comments after that will say “purchased”

I have got the same thing now. Someone saying he just purchased the file with a link to his site (he already implented his full portfolio and fully changed the look of the file). He also has the “Not Purchased” logo. So I assume it’s not bought…

the boss scenario is bit complicated but I would simply ignore users like in this thread who has nothing to prove that he has actually bought the file.

hi digitalscience,

I am one of the the people who did asked the authors about the files that I have not purchased.

I don’t know the reason of other people but I want to tell you my reason.

my client purchase the file from flashden and tell me to customize them. since , they have a little knowledge about flash. I asked something I don’t understand from the author.

Because, I use my account to mail the authors, so they get information that I haven’t purchase their file.

I don’t use the file for myself. I return the files to client after modification.

Hey guys, I can see this being an issue because anyone can somehow find a stolen file, and then use the “purchased through another account” excuse to obtain free support on a pirated file. I do also believe that some of these cases are true. When a design house buys a file, and a few employees need to use it, this issue could come up.

But I think we need to be firm and state something along the lines of “I will happily assist you with your issue. But first I need you to sign into the account that the purchase was made under, and send me an email. Include the word “bologna” for verification purposes”.

I have been contacted many times by buyers, and before the new nifty mail checker. I would need to verify they bought my file. And I didnt get a comment, so I would need to convince them to comment my file. Sometimes it was on a different account and I just instructed the guy to use a “keyword”.

This is bullshit, no support should be given to these guys. However, I had somebody say somethin nice about a file of mine (not ask for help) and he didn’t have the “purchased” badge, and I asked him if he was sure he has bought the file. And after that, he logged in with the account he has bought the file with and proved. But this crap about forgetting you account name, passord and email address is really funny. A new rule should be implemented: people with amnesia are not allowed to make an account, so get tested first :P

That’s a tricky one because you have customised another authors file and then are trying to contact the author for support on the file someone else purchased. I think if you are going to take on the custom work, make sure you can do the work on your own. Because I’d rather not have someone mailing me saying “hi someone sent me your file but I’m having trouble fixing this…” Because I don’t get anything out of helping you but you are charging your client for the customisation work.

At the end of the day you are receiving a file for free and if you need support on the file you should purchased the file again. Because chances are you might use the same file later for one of your own projects.

And uh you can’t return the files to client after modification because they probably still saved on your computer ;)
