Maybe there’s alreay a thread about this, but what software (Mac OS X) do you guys use to make video’s from audio files?
It would be nice if it’s possible to put a still picture in…. and to do batch processing.
I had a look at ffmpeg but that’s quite advanced. iMovie seems a bit annoying…
I use Final Cut Pro, but that might be overkill if you’re only going to be making videos of your songs for sharing on youtube. I do like it a lot better than iMovie, but iMovie should also be able to do the trick.
Have you seen these video loops? I have used some of these.

I use Imovie.Load a picture you want into Iphoto and then open Imovie and select that picture – hold ur cursor over it and a little box will pop up and find clip adjustments and match it to your song length..then find your track in Itunes and hit Share to Youtube..pretty simple.
Hey Mattijs! I use Imovie as well… it is a little clumsy, but it makes the uploading easy. and you can add Text very easily as well…
thanks guys! I didn’t think that much about the uploading part, but that’s nice feature of iMovie
imovie is the easiest
I tried iMovie, but the image stills looked horrible. I had more success with Final Cut Express (Pro or X are probably fine too).
Saving an image still in a compressed video format will decrease its quality. After uploading it to YouTube, it will be compressed again, and will get a bit worse. So the final result never looks as good as the image still that comes straight out of (for instance) Photoshop.
Anyway, my tips:
- make an image of exaclty 1280×720 pixels (16:9) and save it as JPG (quality 100%).
- in Final Cut Express/Pro/X, set the canvas size to HD 720p30 (1280×720 pixels, at 30 frames per second)
When the video is done:
- click File / Export / Using QuickTime Conversion…
- Format: “MPEG-4”, click “Options…”
- copy the settings from these screen shots
