We need a NAS ! Keeping stuff on visible external hard drives is crap when people break in. Plan on putting a Network attached storage device under the floorboards that every computer in the house can access. Is this something you guys use? If so any suggestions?

QNAP ++
Make sure “under the floor boards” is properly ventilated and kept clean.
Synology has some good NAS units. Buffalo NAS units are OK.

Actually I was just looking into this. I’ve been having some serious problems with my data lately. And now, after I got a new external HDD , the iMac (latest model, highest configuration) decided to make problems http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6fWgLa8jeA&feature=plcp.
I RECOMMEND THIS :
http://www.synology.com/products/product.php?product_name=DS413j&lang=uk#p_submenu SYNOLOGY DS413j is the way to go.
This NAS was just released days ago, very competitive pricing, and from my research – in the past two months – I highly recommend it. I was undecided if I should go with a Time Capsule instead, but unless they release a major update – holding up to 16GB of data that can be set in RAID 5 , I don’t see any chance of buying one. That, or Apple breaking the way 3rd party NAS hardware works!
It’s the best out there it seems.
