Here in Holland bicycles are so common (there’s more bicycles than people) that pretty much everyone has several experiences of stolen bikes. For me, I had a bike stolen from the shed once when I was 12 or so. One shrugs and gets a new secondhand one for a handful of tenners. 
Since I moved to the city (for uni) two years ago, it’s gotten even more common. I’ve always had mine locked to earth and made sure it was harder to take than the next guy’s, but many of my peers have had multiple bikes stolen.
The feeling sucks, but it’ll blow over
