I think this layout would be better, its clean, to the point and intuitive for newcomers. Perhaps the home page could be set to randomly land on a category, but predominantly land on Templates and Components as there more in demand.

Yeh! that would be first prize.. but I doubt that would happen tho – too much preference to site templates. Also we might start seeing some strange files trying to be categorised under site templates

. I definitely think your idea is an improvement, and it would bump out the coming soon pages and other sneaky 
files.
