at least games can be done best in flash, though yes it’s definitely a lot less popular than it used to be… well at least i spent a small fortune buying flash stuff from devs here at flash/activeden… i hope it still stays functional, though it looks like it’s on the way out for html5/mp4 video vs flash video players/flv

iPad is not a desktop computer nor is it a laptop, it’s somewhere in between, a gimmick, a new type of technology selling based on it’s form and perceived status as a must have item

just curious, do you own a tablet? I originally bought one for testing, and now I use it every day. A tablet is the perfect device for watching tv and browsing the forums :D

As far as Flash is concerned, it really is a shame, because Flash performance is actually better than JS on my Android tablet. So although it took a while, Adobe did do some great work there. But the fact that they’ve given up on mobile development was the nail in the coffin. Not to mention Chrome is the future browser on Android, and it doesn’t support Flash. But that decision was made because mobile Flash development has been abandoned, so you can’t really blame Google for going in that direction.

In our modern times of obsession over form and excess, Apple products have thrived.

Just saying, Apple products were adopted widely because of ease of use rather than look. The more simple a product is, it has more chances to be helpful for masses even with couple of abilities missing. Microsoft’s approach is different from that and still helpful for different people and it seems healthy competition (better than Apple vs Samsung which confuses people what to choose due to lack of difference).

^ agreed. When the first iPad came out, my father bought one for my mother because she kept getting viruses from opening spam email. And she loves to say “my new computer doesn’t get viruses” (and it drives me nuts every time does :D ). All she needs a computer for is email and facebook so it’s really the perfect device for her. And she probably represents a large percentage of people using the internet these days (i.e. baby boomer).

I think this is 2 much for the market, they really don’t have any start point advantage + there price will fallow Apple cost …and so far there mobile base on the mango OS under Nokia is been ignore and perform purely in sells.

Apple and android platform will keep be the majored player

I agree that iPad gives a great experience but when it comes to Macs then I would say that the only feature I like about Macs is the reliability of OS X otherwise from usability point of view Mac OS X is a nightmare.

Continuously using MacBook Pro for couple of years and rarely using a Windows PC now gives me feeling like I am noob to computing world :(

Ok, I just watched the official presentation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIV4L9ayN4A&feature=player_embedded#!

My thoughts, in order:
1. It’s a flop.
2. Apple makes it look too easy. Microsoft explains how hard it was for them.
3. Microsoft needs talent badly: bad copy, bad design, bad product concept, bad presentation (both screens and people), bad software – breaks even during presentation, just watch, bad timing – you don’t present a half baked product.
4. I’ve seen better. It was called iPad 1.
5. The experience is awful, why make it a PC when it’s supposed to be a tablet? I won’t understand the two screens experience ever. It’s like front-row on mac, that Apple removed a while ago? So there won’t be any Apps? And why so many models? They just don’t get it.
6. They can keep the name, it’s cool. (and improve everything else)

I don’t have an iPad because I don’t need one. I won’t have a Surface, because it sucks big time. I know how that sounds, but it’s just my opinion after seeing their amazingly bad presentation. :-)
