Does an author infringe the exclusivity agreement or other community rule if he or she offers an extra non-exclusive wp theme for each of his exclusive sales?

What I mean is am I allowed to offer something for free for my customers when they buy my themes?

Thx!

I fear that doing something like that would water down the marketplace though? Think about it, if we all got into that then we risk TF becoming ‘but wait! there’s more!’ if you know what I mean?

If we’re selling a quality product, then why would we need to entice customers with extra freebies and add-ons?

It’s marketing, why would TF care, since the freebie is not related to the marketplaces?

It’s not cool. If that goes as a trend, people will start giving heavy packs and entire portfolios in order to sell anything.

I don’t know if there is any rule about that, but there should be one against. Giving away freebies like that will quickly drive the marketplace down, and that is where everyone looses. Don’t do that.

Because it cheapens the overall product, giving the impression that it’s not good enough by itself, it needs extra freebies to make it seem worth the money…

But what about a different type of freebie, let’s say a PSD template? A similar reverse “method” is quite widely spread by having a “freebies blog” where your offer stuff and a purchase link for your themes.

What’s the difference between this method and the one with the theme accompanied with a freebie?

You cannot advertise freebies or give-aways on your item page. What you do on your own site is your business :)

A while back there was a discussion over it and if I remember correctly there was an answer something like that – if the freebie extends the product, like we are doing now – offering PSD with our WordPress themes, then it is okay, but if it is a totally different thing, then it isn’t allowed. For example multiple WordPress themes in one download. I am not really sure if that was the case.

You can give away freebies if you want, this is a marketing strategy and some of the most successful here use this, but they aren’t including anything to their download packages, they are just having separate sites for that.
