Hi friends, is the Macbook 15” retina worth the purchase? I intend on using it for my music (hooked to my korg triton keyboard) and also for design purposes.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

I think it comes with its own keyboard Sherman ;)

My son and son in law both have one. They swear by them, must admit very envious.

It depends on what Mac devices are you using at the moment? :)

I just read a test few weeks ago. They have a really good test and an interesting conclusion regarding the retina laptop. If you buy with the strongest high end CPU thats fine, but bloody expensive. If the CPU is just the basic one, more than likely you will got speed issues because of the high resolution.

I would say yes. They’re expensive, but you get quite some power packed into a tiny machine – and the screen is just something else!

Of course, it completely depends on what you want to use it for, but I couldn’t imagine myself with a better laptop.

If you’re going to be carting it around to gigs in your bag and such like, it’s lightness & thinness to power ratio is something you’ll definitely appreciate.

In fact, it’s so light, quite often I leave coffee shops and have to double check 2 minutes down the street that I definitely put it back in my bag!

I find that it handles large files and 3D rendering simultaneously with web browsing, iTunes, Skype etc without breaking a sweat. Doing so with some of the same files that my previous MBP struggled with. I have however had the 16GB Ram upgrade.

I can’t give you any feedback on how it would handle music – and maybe you could use a smaller inch model or different model computer altogether and achieve the same / better results, and maybe if it’s just for music you could skip the Retina screen.

All I can say is that I highly recommend this computer, you definitely get what you pay for :)

Quickandeasy: For 3D rendering, well i would suggest to go try the render farm. There is no home based computer could compite with that speed. Not mentioned the cost. The new series of apple products became more expensive (not only the inflation) compare it to the 2009-2010 prices. That time it was a good deal. Now i think Apple is became very tricky with the prices. Just think about the iPhone4 <-> iPone5 price comare to their feautre. I have a late 2009 late MBP 2.66. Now i am replace the battery, throw out the Superdrive, will buy an SSD and a Hybrid drive. I have 8G memory upgraded. All this together cost me around 400 USD. I know this MBP will be never sold, i already late with that. But if i will need a stronger box, i think thats will be a Hackintosh. I was never thinking in this way before, but now i have to.
