Hi All,

I’m new here, having signed up only a couple of days ago, so please forgive me if I’m covering areas that have already been discussed before.

I was just wondering what everybody thought about the benefits of using Audio Loops as opposed to Full Tracks.

I can see that loops have two initially obvious advantages over full tracks, in that they take up less space, shortening load times, and they can be looped (surprisingly), creating a constant/infinite audio backdrop.

On the other hand, with full tracks, you can have music that has an intro and outro, with verse and chorus arrangements in between, creating more diversity within a particular soundtrack.

Plus, I personally love creating full tracks, and, at the moment, am not as used to creating self-contained loops. So, at this point, I would like to apologise to all for creating this thread with largely selfish motives.

I would be very interested to hear any opinions and ideas on this.

Thanks for reading this far!

Hey Jtype,

To answer your question.. well both are commonly used but have somewhat distinct optimal uses.

Tracks as mp3 are best used for streaming music in, since short mp3 loops have an annoying skip when looped over and over, at the loop point. In this respect the load time of the site is irrelevant, since the music is going to stream in once the site is loaded anyway.

Loops themselves, when loaded together with a site, sound better when initially imported as Wavs in the flash IDE ( they can then be compressed a selected mp3 degree when publishing the swf ) and they won’t skip and the music will be seamless. Naturally for quick intros, transitions, quick scenes and such seamless backgrounds, loops are often preferred.

Writing a loop is actually easier than writing a track if you ask me, the only key is to get that loop point interesting, usually by changing the drum pattern, either by adding something or taking something away..inserting a silence or a drum fill, or leading back into the main melodic idea of the music ( assuming there was some variation ) That’s with longer loops 15/20-60 seconds….. for shorter ones it’s much less complicated and usually a no brainer. But again there are no rules set in stone :) If you want I can send you some examples, my pleasure.

lemme know, cheers

Hi ADG3 !

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I would appreciate a few examples, if you don’t mind. Also, if you wouldn’t mind taking a look at some of my loops (although, at the moment there is only one uploaded.. one more is in the queue for approval…)) and letting me know if you think they are edited in the most effective way, I would much appreciate that too!

Thanks again!
